Priyanka’s surprise birthday gift for Shahid! - bollywood news gossips

If the grapevine is to be believed, Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra have split again. The story got credence from the fact that Chopra suddenly flew off to the US, where she has been spotted in the company of pop singer, Lady Gaga.

The move was apparently to avoid Kapoor’s 30th birthday party that had several of his friends and co-stars trooping in to wish him the best last Friday.

Chopra, however, was miles away, on another continent, but she hadn’t forgotten her good friend. She had a special gift delivered to him. Priyanka-ShahidOne of her staff picked up a white helmet from the Diesel store in Juhu, late Thursday evening.

“Priyanka had placed the order earlier but a white helmet wasn’t available at the time. She had to leave soon after, and conveyed to the store manager that she wouldn’t be in the city but someone would take delivery on her behalf,” reveals a source.

The helmet was gift-wrapped exactly the way Chopra had instructed and delivered to Kapoor at the stroke of midnight. The actor, who has a Harley Davidson bike he is passionate about, was thrilled with his surprise gift.

Both Chopra and Kapoor remained unavailable for comment but one thing’s for sure, the present is perfect and all’s well with the couple who are gearing up to set the screen on fire in Kunal Kohli’s next film.

Sussanne Roshan: Shop talk! - bollywood news Gossips

Mumbai, Feb. 28 -- Hrithik Roshan's wife Sussanne learnt early in life that nothing is impossible. After assisting her mother for a while, she tied the knot with the most promising newcomer, and eventually worked only on special clients while raising her sons Hrehaan and Hridaan.

Yesterday, she brought her 'third baby into the world' as she calls her store, The Charcoal Project, along with husband Hrithik Roshan, who's most proud about her childhood dream coming true.

Sussanne concedes that there were times she'd get worried, upset and even frustrated when things took long to work out. Didn't she turn her husband into a punching bag then? "Hrithik's been such a sweetheart, often telling me to not worry, believe in myself and that everything would be fine," she asserts, adding, "He taught me that I shouldn't leave any stone unturned. And if I needed anything, I should do it, and never let go."

And when Hrithik was away for his outdoors, Sussanne had her great support system in the Roshan and Khan clans, and a couple of her close buddies. "When Hrithik returned and saw the way my store was coming up, he was in tears and happily surprised. He trusts my vision. It's a challenge to live up to his expectations," enthuses Mrs Roshan, seated inside her two-level store (basement and ground).

The strangest aspect of setting up her store was getting the moss walls because moss reflects life for some parts of The Charcoal Project. "They were lost in transition for about two months!" she exclaims, still shocked that the moss walls she ordered from North America couldn't be located somewhere along the way. "I had to send someone in Europe to locate it. The transportation had come to a halt due to blizzards last winter. Fortunately, everything was sorted out, and they reached Mumbai only three weeks ago."

The gorilla installations she points out are the craziest part of her store. Reason: the two gorillas weigh a tonne each, and couldn't be brought down to the basement easily.

"Thankfully, my architect Ehsan had two huge holes punched in the floor. So we got the pulley-machines used by ship-loaders to get the gorillas down to the basement," she recalls, stating that every bit of setting up shop has been recorded on a video. "I think anyone can set up a store if they want to. Taking it ahead is the tougher part."

Indian American creating crowd-sourced film on Egyptian revolution - bollywood news gossips

Washington, Feb 25 (IANS) An Indian-American filmmaker and journalist is leading a project to create a "crowd-sourced interactive documentary" to tell the story of the Egyptian revolution with the same tools that brought it to the world in real time.

A three-person team led by Jigar Mehta, a Knight Fellow at Stanford and former New York Times video journalist, is asking people to tell what they know of the events in Egypt from Jan 25 to Feb 11 for their "18DaysInEgypt" documentary.

Others on the team are Yasmin Elayat, a New York based interaction designer and software developer, who studied Computer Science at the American University in Cairo and Alaa Dajani, a documentary filmmaker born and raised in Egypt.

The team is asking people to tag their media on YouTube, Flickr, Twitter with the tag '18DaysinEgypt' and the day it happened plus any additional information they can provided about the media.

The team will find the clips via search, they said. "Once we have a collection of the media, we are going to use the community around #18DaysinEgypt to help curate the material for the final documentary."

The just launched first part of the project involves collection: getting the population who took video/photos/tweeted to tag or upload their media. The second part involves distribution of the interactive component to tell the story using footage shot by thousands.

Akshay plays coolest role of his career in 'Housefull 2': Sajid - bollywood news Gossips

Mumbai, Feb 25 (IANS) Sajid Khan is busy with the sequel to his comedy "Housefull" and says that Akshay Kumar will be seen in a never before seen avatar in it.

In "Housefull 2", Akshay's role has apparently gone back to the storyboard. "Golmaal" writers Sajid-Farhad have been roped in to write the part.

"We've really enhanced the cool quotient for Akshay in 'Housefull 2'. The Akshay that you'll see in 'Housefull 2' has never been seen before," said Sajid.

According to sources, the script for the sequel has devised some of the scariest action sequences ever. Apparently Akshay's introductory stunt in "Housefull 2" would be directed by Robert Alonzo who is Tom Cruise's stunt co-ordinator in "Mission Impossible 4".

Sajid doesn't deny the James Bond influence on "Housefull 2".

He said: "If Akshay played a 'Sad Sack' in 'Housefull', he plays the coolest character of his career in 'Housefull 2'. Yes, James Bond is a deep influence on me. As a child I remember seeing exotic countries as locations in the Bond films."

Ranbir refuses to endorse fairness products! - bollywood news gossips

Bollywood hunk Ranbir Kapoor reportedly said no to a lucrative offer to endorse fairness products. Ranbir was simply not interested in being the brand ambassador, as he does not believe in endorsing such products.

By not endorsing a product like a fairness cream, the actor wants to reiterate that such products only make racist stereotypes, which already exist in our society, grow stronger roots, reported Mumbai Mirror.

Kapoor boy has a huge fan following and knows they would blindly follow what the actor endorses. "Ranbir knows that there may be many who would end up blindly following what he does. He does not want to misguide anyone by saying that fairness creams 'improve your skin,'" a source told the tabloid.

Reportedly, the actor met up with the officials of the fairness brand, but he refused their offer immediately, simply because he felt so strongly against it.

Ranbir has certainly made an exception unlike other big actors who don't mind endorsing fairness products like Shah Rukh Khan, Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone.

Well, this is one thing that has surely made Ranbir a "hero" in our eyes.

PZ not in White! - bollywood latest news gossips

Mumbai, Feb. 24 -- Preity Zinta's sabbatical from Bollywood isn't coming to an end anytime soon. Lately, reports have been rife that the actor has signed Mahesh Manjrekar's next, White. But PZ, as the actor is better known, clarifies that she hasn't green-lighted any new Bollywood project yet.

The Veer Zaara actor has, in fact, gone on to clarify the status on her Twitter account too. "I have not signed White. I have just read the script, so I don't know where this news has come from." said Zinta on the micro-blogging website. Sources insist that Zinta liked the script but she isn't going to take up any film project till the Indian Premier League 4 (IPL) gets over in May. "These days, Preity has her hands full with the IPL team, Kings XI Punjab, and her new TV show (Guinness World Records - Ab India Todega on Colors)," says a source.

It's believed that the role in Manjrekar's film is a challenging one about a woman, who goes through several shades in life, right from her 20s to 60s. But the actor isn't sure if she can focus completely on the film right now.

For the uninitiated, Zinta's last Bollywood outing was an item number in Salman Khan-Kareena Kapoor dud Main Aur Mrs Khanna (2009). Her other film, Jahnu Barua's Harr Pall co-starring actor Shiney Ahuja, has been stuck for a long time now.

Incidentally, Zinta was also in the news recently for having bagged a role in Yash Raj Films' next Mere Brother Ki Dulhan starring Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif. But Zinta denied the news.

Sonu Niigaam postpones foreign project to be with ailing mom - Bollywood news gossips

Mumbai, Feb 24 (IANS) Playback singer Sonu Niigaam's has put on hold his album, which he was supposed to compose with an American composer, because he wants to be with his mother Shobha who has been diagnosed with cancer.

"Unfortunately my mother was diagnosed with the fourth stage of cancer in December (last year). I realised that maybe this is god's wish that I should be in the country and not go to America until my mother is fine. I don't want to miss out on these days of her ailment," Sonu told IANS in an interview.

Though the life threatening disease is in its fourth stage, Sonu is confident that she will recover. "Even being in the fourth stage, she is going to recover," he said.

Asked how this album came to him, he said: "I was in America in 2009 for about seven months. If you are a musician, you attract musicians around you. They are not much aware of Indian music. They googled my name and came to know what I'm capable of."

Sonu is yet clueless how he is going to contribute in the album.

"I will do it. It's a different world altogether. The music is different and the producers are different. I don't know what I am going to do. I have to wait until my mother gets well," he said.

"It has to be international. I can't give much details because you know how cynical Americans are. So, I have to ask them before I speak about it," he added.

Ranbir's Kashmir holiday! - bollywood latest news gossips

Mumbai, Feb. 24 -- Bonjour my bourbons! How goes it in your duniya? It's not exactly going great guns and cannons in mine... no thanks to a new source, who is rehashing and remixing leads and passing them on to me with a little additional information here and there.

Considering that I've driven away long-term associates like Madhu the Mottu Maid and Rapchik Rajni for their errors of omission and commission, there's no way I'd let this newbie off the hook. Anyway, let's get to your dose of fresh goss, hot from glamour gaon...

Okay, so we know that some of our stars lead a life too busy to give abundant time to their family. In recent months, Ranbir Kapoor has been working so much that he wasn't getting enough time to chill with his parents, Rishi and Neetu Kapoor.

Seems when he was packing to head to Kashmir for the outdoor schedule of Imtiaz Ali-directed Rockstar, they excitedly told him about all the places he must check out. That's when the significance of the location for his parents struck the young star.

Sher Lock Holmes points out to me that Rishi and Neetu have shot many a film, like Kabhi Kabhie, in Kashmir. So the destination is very close to their hearts. That's when Ranbir apparently decided to visit those places with his parents.

Bas, aur kya? The actor not only planned their holiday coinciding with the last days of his work schedule, but also surprised them when he informed them of their bookings. Needless to say, Rishi and Neetu were pleased with their sonny boy's plans and will soon be joining him in Kashmir. Wah, kya baat hai!

"Aazaan" is an international espionage film about an informant who has to go undercover beyond enemy lines to save the nation from destruction by biological warfare.

"While scripting the film, I felt that Candice would make the perfect mystery miss. Given that she's a Playboy covergirl, the instant connect is, 'She must be hot.' She is but there's also a certain vulnerability that makes her more appealing," said Chadha, who made his directorial debut with Himesh Reshammiyaa starrer "Aap Ka Surroor".

While Akki fans were expecting him to return as the host of his trademark show Khatron Ke Khiladi, it seems that the wish will again remain a dream for this season. Akshay Kumar, who hosted the first and the second season of Khatron Ke Khiladi, was replaced by actress Priyanka Chopra in the third season, will now be replaced by Ajay Devgn in the fourth.

It is reported that Ajay has dropped a hint to the makers of fear factor that he wants to host the next season of the show. But source close to the actor cleared that the makers of Khatron Ke Khiladi approached Ajay for the show.

It is a very well known fact that Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar share a cold relationship from the days of Khakee. The recent clash in the release of Action Replayy and Golmaal 3 cannot be avoided with bare eyes though.

It is also reported that Priyanka Chopra is also very keen on returning to the show, however the scale is more inclined towards Ajay and Akshay this season.

Ameesha's most wanted! - bollywood news gossips

Mumbai, Feb. 23 -- She may not be doing too many movies, but she's still popular, remarks my parinda from Andheri's Lokhandwala Complex, as she drops in for a chat. Who are you talking about I wonder and she replies, Ameesha Patel. Matlab?

Meaning that the actor was specially invited for dinner by the French Ambassador, Jerome Bonnafont, at his official residence in New Delhi on Monday evening. Birdy further adds that Ameesha, who's an economics graduate from Tufts University, Massachusetts, US, was later overheard discussed worldly affairs at length with Mr Bonnafont and our own Shashi Tharoor.

Besides, of course, the pouty actor has already sent the mercury rising in the recent times, having lost excess pounds to look svelte and sexy. Going ga ga over Ameesha, my parinda claims to be eagerly awaiting to see her sizzle on screen soon. Really now! But then, such is life dearies.

Akshay's weekend with family! - bollywood news gossips

Mumbai, Feb. 23 -- Excuse moi while I answer this call on my kaaliberry. It's my chidiya from Chandigarh, claiming to have some dope on Akshay Kumar, who's shooting there for Joker.

Yeah, director Shirish Kunder's next movie in 3D, which also features Sonakshi Sinha. I'm told that Khiladi Kumar, who's going to be there for a couple of weeks more, was missing his son, Aarav, a lot. So he arranged for him and biwi Twinkle to fly down there, so he could spend some quality time with them.

Aur pata hai kya? The he took Aarav puttar for a marathon session of fun and games, the highlight being a round of paintball. Bas, aur kya?

Seems like the boy had a wonderful time indulging in the game with his daddy dearest... and they couldn't stop talking and laughing over it even when they got back to their hotel suite. Kewl!

Sunny Deol: Shedding the action image! - bollywood news gossips

Mumbai, Feb. 23 -- According to Sunny Deol, his home production, Yamla Pagla Deewana's, success has given him the "courage to go ahead and experiment". "I want to follow my father's (Dharmendra) foot steps and do films like Hrishikesh Mukherji's Satyakam (1969)," says the actor, who wants to move beyond his action image, which he feels limits his roles.

Planning a paradigm shift from the parts he normally portrays, Deol has signed three non-action films this year. The first is Chandraprakash Dwivedi's Mohalla Assi, for which Deol leaves for Benaras today for a 30-day schedule. The actor will interact with pundits and learn Sanskrit for his role as a Hindu priest and teacher in the film.

"I am excited to meet the learned men. The outward appearance is done, but the nuances of their mannerisms and dialect can be only learnt by meeting and spending time with them."

Based on a popular Hindi novel Kashi Ka Assi written by Dr Kashinath Singh, Mohalla Assi has satirical overtones. The story is spread over ten years between 1989 and 1999, and talks about what was happening in the country then and how it affected lives of people in rural India. "I will be speaking in Sanskrit when I teach, otherwise the dialect is in pure Hindi through the film," says Deol.

The film stars various stage actors and will mark TV actor Sakshi Tanwar's film debut, as Deol's wife. "I play a man who has married twice. He is the head of his neighbourhood and a man of rigid principles. The story deals with how he is left behind due to that attitude," he says, adding that the period film will take audiences through a journey of emotions. "It'll touch your hearts and make you laugh and cry, but you won't see me beating 1,000 people."

The other two films Deol has signed on will be directed by Anil Sharma and Neeraj Pathak, respectively. The projects are yet to be titled.

Nelly Furtado: 'I have listened to Lata Mangeskar songs and I really like her songs' - bollywood news gossips

Mumbai, Feb. 23 -- Indian diva Lata Mangeshkar has an unlikely fan. Canadian singer Nelly Furtado says, "I have listened to Lata Mangeshkar and I really like her songs." Furtado, who released her greatest hits compilation, The Best of Nelly Furtado in November last year, has previously credited Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan among her music influences. The album, though critically acclaimed, has not lived up to the singer's previous work. But Furtado still remains unmoved by the lack of album sales. "My album has done well and I'm more than happy," she says.

Furtado first shot to fame in 2000 with her Grammy winning single 'I'm like a bird' from the album Whoa Nelly. In the next 10 years, she continued to churn out hits through albums like Folklore, Loose and Mi Plan as well as numerous singles. But a greatest hits compilation after just a decade in the music business seemed to be a risky proposition. "2010 was the best time for me to celebrate the 10 years of my career. I also wanted to come up with duets that my fans would like to have on one album. That's how I came up with this album," says Furtado.

The album features all of Furtado's biggest hits, plus three new hits. "It was important for it to have my biggest hits, including collaborations. During my early days, I used to play in concert or jazz bands. The artists I have worked with have opened career opportunities for me," she reveals, when asked about the criteria for song selection.

Furtado mentions that her fans' top choice was the single 'Try', saying, "That's the song that fans mentioned to me more than any other. It really helped me through difficult crises in my life. When I sing this song live, there's a lot of emotion in the audience. There's a lot of crying going on and I cry as well."

Om Puri, Tannishtha, Nandita: Sold on Hollywood! - bollywood news gossips

Mumbai, Feb. 23 -- Hollywood's brush with India continues unabated. Actors Tannishtha Chatterjee and Nandita Das are set to act in Oscar-award winning actor Emma Thompson's upcoming film, Sold. The Love Actually beauty is on board as the executive producer of the multi-starrer film.

"Emma is closely involved with Sold because she likes the story a lot," says Tannishtha. "I met her briefly in London some time back. And she came across as a fantastic person. Emma is a big star but she was very warm towards me. She is excited about the movie. In fact, Emma is planning to come down to India once the film's shooting kicks off."

Director Jeffrey D Brown, who won an Oscar for his short film Molly's Pilgrim, makes his feature film debut with Sold. He was the one who zeroed in on Tannishtha. "Jeffrey had seen my work in Bombay Summer (2009) and Brick Lane (2007) and was very impressed. So, he sent me the script offering me the second lead part in the movie."

But after reading the script, Tannishtha chose another part. "Jeffrey wanted me to play the second lead since a 12-year-old girl will be the main protagonist," she says. "Unlike my role in Brick Lane, I will play a crazy and boisterous girl, Monica. It will be challenging."

Tannishtha and Nandita apart, the film will also star Hollywood actor David Arquette of Scream fame with X-Files' Gillian Anderson and Indian actor Om Puri. While Nandita remained unavailable for comment, Tannishtha informs that Puri has been signed for the movie.

"It'll be an ensemble cast because there are several interesting small roles. So, the casting is still on," says Tannishtha. Based on a novel by Patricia McCormick of the same title, the film's story is about a 13-year-old girl risking everything for freedom after being trafficked from her mountain village in Nepal to a brothel in India.

"Since the film will be shot in India, Anurag Kashyap has been roped in as line producer," says Tannishtha. It will be shot in India largely around Mumbai and the outskirts of Maharashtra in May-June. Bollywood art director Nitin Desai is already designing the sets.

Tannishtha, on her part, is also excited about Charlie's Angel Lucy Liu's directorial debut venture, Meena. "Lucy has finished her film. But since the project consists of four short films, we are waiting for others to wrap up their parts. Then, it will be tied into one film to release," she says.
